TORI'S NEST was set up in 2024 by a group of Japanese mums from very different backgrounds who all share a love of good Japanese food. We have been very lucky to be supported by people with specialist skills, some of whom have now joined our team.

Chie
Chie
Chie is the main cook who is passionate about nature and wildlife. She is from Tokyo and worked and volunteered for 5 years for wildlife conservation NGOs and a local parks and wildlife agency in Japan. Her passion for wildlife brought her to Tasmania in 2005 where she completed a post-graduate Masters degree in Environmental Studies at UTAS – studying the endangered Forty-spotted pardalote (TORI’S NEST logo). Chie has a daughter born and raised in South Hobart and enjoys cooking (obviously), bushwalking and camping, tour guiding and reading Japanese novels.

Aki
Aki
Aki hails from the island of Shikoku and moved to Tasmania in 2007. She is a qualified Massage / Tok Sen Therapist trained in Thailand, Australia and Japan.
She is passionate about Eastern Medicine, Herbal Remedies, and skateboarding. Aki lives in Southern Tasmania with her husband and daughter who was born and raised in Tasmania. Aki is a great networker, has a terrific sense of humour and tells the best stories!

Yuka
Yuka is originally from Kobe and moved from Sydney to Tasmania with her family in 2023. She has a son who was born in Australia. Yuka enjoys Tasmania’s beautiful nature and products. She has a warm and friendly personality and provides great customer service. Yuka loves talking with customers and getting advice from locals about fun things to do and tasty foods to eat, including vegan dishes.

Luke
Luke is originally from China and has lived in both New Zealand and Australia. He came to Tasmania to pursue his postgraduate studies and quickly fell in love with the natural environment and the local community, which inspired him to settle there permanently. Luke previously served as the secretary of Source Eco Hub, where he helped organise weekly lunches, dinners, and workshops. He follows a vegan lifestyle and has a strong interest in both Western and Asian plant-based cooking. He is also passionate about gardening, fresh ingredients, and the farm-to-table philosophy.
